Buy from the brand’s appointed distributor in Thailand. For both Martin and Taylor, that is Music Collection established 1989, 14 locations nationwide. This matters for a reason most buyers don’t discover until something goes wrong: neither Martin nor Taylor offers an international warranty. Both brands hand warranty responsibility to the distributor that supports each country. In Thailand, that distributor is the warranty.
The Real Question Isn’t «Is It Genuine»
Most buyers in Bangkok ask whether a guitar is real. It’s the wrong first question, because a guitar can be perfectly genuine and still leave you with nothing to fall back on.
Here is the rule, in the brands’ own words.
Martin states in its FAQ: «Martin Guitar does not offer an international warranty. The Distributor that supports your country and dealer network is responsible for warranty coverage.»
Taylor structures coverage the same way. Taylor’s US warranty documentation states it does not cover guitars purchased outside the United States or Canada; in other markets the authorized distributor takes responsibility for repairs and service, with terms published per territory.
So the question that decides your next ten years of ownership isn’t «is this guitar real.» It’s «who is responsible for it in Thailand.» Outside the official channel, the answer is nobody.
A Warning for Visitors and Expats
This one catches people out regularly.
Martin’s terms are explicit: its Limited Lifetime Warranty applies to the original, registered owner who bought through an authorized Martin dealer in the USA or Canada only, and if you bought there but live abroad, «the owner is responsible to return the instrument to the USA or Canada to an authorized service center for all warranty service.»
Read that plainly: a Martin bought in Los Angeles and carried back to Bangkok is a guitar whose warranty service lives on the other side of the Pacific. Buying the same model here, through the Thai distributor, puts the service where you actually are.
Martin: Built in Nazareth, Serviced Through the Distributor
C.F. Martin & Co. was founded in 1833 in Nazareth, Pennsylvania. Martin invented X-bracing and created the Dreadnought body shape, two things that became the default for the whole acoustic industry.
Where they’re built: Martin states that its guitars are made in Nazareth, Pennsylvania, with the exception of the X Series, Backpacker Series, Road Series, Dreadnought Junior, PA5 models, and select ukuleles, which are made at its plant in Mexico.
Warranty structure: a Limited Lifetime Warranty on most models, valid only to the original registered owner who purchased through an authorized dealer, and not transferable to a second owner. Little Martin, Backpacker, and 1 Series Ukulele carry a Limited One Year Warranty instead.

Taylor: Two Factories, and a Thailand Partner Named on Taylor’s Own Site
Taylor Guitars was founded in 1974 by Bob Taylor and Kurt Listug.
Where they’re built: two factories only El Cajon, California, and Tecate, Mexico. Taylor does not manufacture anywhere in Asia. That makes a useful filter: a «Taylor» offered at an unusually low price through a channel that can’t show you where it came from did not come out of those two buildings.

Why Bangkok’s Climate Makes Service Part of the Purchase
Relative humidity in Thailand usually sits around 60–80%. Acoustic guitars are happiest at roughly 45–55%. Wood moves more here than it does in a temperate climate: necks shift, action creeps up, and instruments need periodic setup work.
Both brands exclude damage caused by extreme temperature or humidity, and both tie coverage to work done by their own authorized service network. Put those together, and the conclusion is direct: choosing who touches your guitar is a warranty decision, not just a repair decision.
